Packing Cubes 101

We were first introduced to packing cubes about 5 years ago and they were such a wonderful discovery!

It's no secret that we love a good organizational system...and packing cubes are the ultimate way to organize all that you pack. Here is a bit on packing cubes, why we love them, and one of our favorite brands of packing cubes. 

What are packing cubes?

Packing cubes are soft-sided, zippered bags designed to help you categorize and organize your luggage contents. They are available in various sizes to suit your needs and are generally made of durable nylon. As their name indicates, they are usually square or rectangle in shape. 

Why use packing cubes?

Oh, let us count the ways! There are so many benefits to using packing cubes...here are a few highlights:

Great for carry-on luggage

Um, we're kind of sticklers for carrying on vs. checking our luggage. Being able to breeze in and out of the airport without having to check your bag is so liberating! However, you do have to compromise on how much you pack. Packing cubes allow you to pack even more. Yes, even more that you can cram into that little carry-on bag!

Stay organized

Keeping all that you pack organized is no small feat! When you're packing, you have to consider all types of clothing (anywhere from workout wear, to tops + jeans, and to undergarments), in addition to shoes, cosmetics, toiletries, etc. So many different categories to pack! By using packing cubes, you can group types of clothing and shoes together to keep everything organized. 

Packing + unpacking made easy!

If you pack your categories by cube (i.e., all your tops in one cube), it will be faster to initially pack. And once you reach your destination, quicker and easier to unpack (and repack when you head home 🙌). And many packing cube brands have ways to label each cube based on how you like to pack. 

Locate items in an instant

Ever had to open your suitcase in an airport and rummage through it to find that sweater you forgot to pullout to keep you warm on the flight? If you use packing cubes, you'll know exactly where to find it and the contents of your luggage won't be strewn about the floor of the airport.

Okay, so there you have it...a few darn good reasons you should be using packing cubes. We haven't come up with a Marcher packing cube product juuussst yet, but we do have one that we just absolutely love and highly recommend. We suggest you check out the Calpak brand of packing cubes.
